Fog Lane Park

Free Family Friendly Activities

Dear Friends,

Hoping this finds you well. As the evenings draw in and the temperature is definitely dropping, Autumn is well and truly underway. The colours and changes in the park are breathtakingly beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing all the wonderful photos on our Facebook page. Over the school holidays next week, we are pleased to confirm that there will be a couple of free to join, family-friendly events in the park. The first is this Saturday 23rd October 11:30-1:30 near the Café and includes bat box building and pumpkin carving and will be led by the park rangers supported by the Friends volunteers – no need to book just show up and we will see you there! The second event is being run solely by the park rangers and is a Harry Potter wand making 11 -1 pm on Tuesday 26th October. Please contact the head ranger John.keys@manchester.gov.uk for more information.

If you would like to volunteer to help this Saturday, please just drop me a line – all help gratefully received!! This week in the park our dedicated gardening group worked hard to tidy the sensory garden ahead of Winter – this is the area including the circle paving near the Westholme entrance to the park.

With the care of local residents and the Friends’ group over the last few years, the improvements to this area have been amazing and it is now a wonderfully welcoming space as it was intended. If you’ve never seen it or noticed it – maybe next time you’re passing take a rest and see the park from a different angle. If you would like to join the gardeners’ they meet every Wednesday at the Friends room in the Café building at 10 am and finish off at 12.

We also had our first meeting since before coronavirus restrictions last night and it was wonderful to see so many people passionate about our park and its future. Our next meeting will be Wednesday 24th November 7-8 pm venue TBC.

If there is something you feel passionate about or you are keen to help with caring for and improving our wonderful, wild park please save the date. If you are still with us reading this – all that remains for me to say is THANK YOU and hope to see you in the park.

Alice
